Both ankles are swelling and I am 80 lbs overweight, no diabetes, no htn, what could it be?

1 year ago I fell in a hole and broke both the tibia and fibula at the ankle of the left lower extremity. 2 weeks ago I had the hardware taken out. Release with no restrictions or limitations. However the right ankel is swollen and the left ankle is swollen larger than it ever was with hardware in, could this be another health issue?
